Public Protector and Human Rights Commission intervention in tertiary education challenges continues

The joint Public Protector South Africa (PPSA) and the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) dialogue with the tertiary education community to find lasting solutions to problems plaguing the universities and TVET colleges continues this week with a visit to Tshwane University of Technology's (TUT) campus in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

Acting Public Protector Adv. Kholeka Gcaleka and the SAHRC’s, Ms. Shirley Mlombo will meet with TUT Campus Rector, Dr. Kenneth Netshiombo, Student Representative Council (SRC) President, Mfanafuthi Masinga and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) Chief Operations Officer, Ms. Nthuseng Mphahlele.

The meeting comes in the wake of two fruitful engagements with the Minister of Higher Education, Innovation and Technology, Dr. Blade Nzimande and the leadership of the South African Union of Students (SAUS) last week. The two separate engagements were preceded by a visit to the University of Venda in Thohoyandou, Limpopo.
