Public Protector: Provincial Office in Limpopo

4 April 2003

The Limpopo provincial office of the Public Protector in Polokwane will be officially opened on Friday, 4 April 2003 by the Deputy President of South Africa, Mr Jacob Zuma.

In terms of the Constitution, the Public Protector must be accessible to all persons and all communities. Most obviously, accessibility, as required by section 182(4), means physical accessibility, said the Public Protector, Mr Lawrence Mushwana. The establishing of provincial offices therefore forms part of the mandate of the Public Protector. With the establishment of the Limpopo office, the Public Protector now has provincial offices in all provinces with the exception of Gauteng, where the national office in Pretoria fulfils this function.

Finally we are in Limpopo officially and we hope that the people of Limpopo will utilise this office and the services that we offer. We will endeavour to reach out to the people in rural areas, said Mr Mushwana.
