Condolences to Raymond Mhlaba

The Public Protector and staff are saddened to learn of the sudden passing away of the liberation struggle icon, Raymond "Oom Ray" Mhlaba.

Oom Ray, as he was affectionately known, was a gallant revolutionary who sacrificed his entire life for the emancipation of the oppressed.

The Public Protector said: "I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the Mhlaba family - I share your loss, pain and grief.

Death has robbed the people of South Africa of a leader, a grandfather and a freedom fighter whose immense contribution to the emancipation of the oppressed is immeasurable.

Oom Ray, you will be sorely missed and your legacy will remain with us eternally."
