Former Australian Ombudsman visits Public Protector's Office in Bloemfontein

September 2002

Mr Fred Albietz, former Parliamentary Commissioner for Administrative investigations, Queensland, Australia, visited the regional office of the Public Protector in Bloemfontein this week. This formed part of a three-week lecturing and training programme which Mr Albietz is presenting to the office of the Public Protector in South Africa.

In addition to conducting workshops in Pretoria on investigative techniques and complaint handling, Mr Albietz is visiting some of the regional offices of the Public Protector in other provinces.

The office has no doubt that its personnel will benefit greatly from Mr Albietz vast experience in international Ombudsmanship. From 1997 to 2001 he was a Director of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) and from 1998 to 2001 he served as Vice President of the IOI for the Australasian and Pacific Region.

I derive a considerable measure of satisfaction in sharing the benefit of my knowledge and experiences of Ombudsmanship, and in particular investigation techniques, with other ombudsmen especially those from cross cultural and developing countries, said Mr Albietz.
