The Public Protector of South Africa

In addition to a strong legal background, Adv Mushwana has had a distinguished career in government and has served on various Parliamentary committees.  He participated in the drawing up of the South African Constitution and also served on the Judicial Services Commission.  He is well known for his role as Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces.  He resigned from his position to take up office as the second Public Protector of South Africa on 15 October 2002.
