The Public Protector applauds employment
of young traffic officers
Tuesday,
11 September 2012
The Public Protector Adv. Thuli Madonsela
expresses her appreciation of the cooperation by the Gauteng
Department of Transport, Community Safety and Liaison under
the leadership of MEC Faith Mazibuko, for the cooperation
which has resulted in the successful mediation of the
complaint lodged by 49 intern traffic officers of the
Department.
This follows a complaint lodged by intern traffic officers
that the department unfairly terminated their employment
contract.
The Public Protectors appreciates the respect shown by
department to sections 181 (3) and 182 of the Constitution
and the Public Protector Act. After a series of conciliatory
processes, the department complied with all the remedial
action agreed to between the Public Protector and the
Department that the intern traffic officers be absorbed in
the department. As a result of this implementation 48 intern
traffic officers have been employed and are currently at a
refresher’s training course.
The Public Protector commends this exemplary conduct and
would appreciate if all organs of state were to observe the
findings and promptly implement the remedial action of the
Public Protector as mandated by the Constitution.
