Deadline for organs of state not extended
Friday, 25 March 2011
The Business Day of 25 March 2011 published an article under the headline
“Protector’s report extension for state” in which it is implied that the Public
Protector has extended the deadline for Organs of State to respond to her report
titled “Against the Rules”
The Public Protector would like to clarify that the deadline for Cabinet was
different to the departments against which adverse findings were made. The
deadline for the Cabinet Secretary was 10 days from the date of the Cabinet’s
meeting at which the report would have been discussed. An extension for Cabinet
has been agreed to until the investigation on the lease of office accommodation
in Durban is finalised.
The deadline for and other Departments was within 30 days of date of the report which
fell on 24 March 2011.
The South African Police Service has submitted a response relating to the implementation
of the remedial action. The Department of Public Works has asked for an extension until 04
April 2011. The Public Protector has granted an extension and expects a response on the
agreed date.
Public Protector will engage the National Treasury to obtain a progress report on the
implementation of the remedial action as contained in the report.
For full report, go to the home page and click ‘documentation’ on the menu and select ‘investigation report’. The report will be the first on the list.
