Public Protector and UK counterpart
to hold seminar

Public Protector Adv Thuli Madonsela and her United Kingdom
counterpart, the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman,
Ann Abraham, will hold a national seminar on how ombudsman
institutions should redress citizens failed by governments.
The seminar is part of the activities Ms Abraham, who has a
history of taking firm remedial action to correct state
wrongs, will engage in during her two-day stay in South
Africa. She is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting
with the Public Protector to share good practices and
experience. The two institutions will sign a Memorandum of
Understanding aimed at fostering cooperation between them on
Wednesday, 18 August 2010.
The seminar will be held under the theme: “Ombudsman, making
a difference in providing remedial action when the state
fails its people: the United Kingdom Parliamentary and
Health Services Ombudsman experience.”
